Aegis Energy consults on plans for clean transport hub in Dartford

Aegis Energy has launched a public consultation on proposals for a new multi-energy charging and refuelling hub at Littlebrook Business Park in Dartford, aimed at supporting the transition to cleaner freight and logistics operations across the South East.

The proposed development would provide critical infrastructure for commercial vehicle operators using the M25 corridor and wider regional freight network, helping businesses adopt lower-carbon transport solutions while maintaining efficient supply chains.

Located on the former Littlebrook Power Station site, approximately 1.4 miles from the Dartford Crossing, the hub would occupy a strategically important position on one of the UK’s busiest freight routes. The location is already home to a significant concentration of logistics and industrial businesses, many of which are expected to transition to low and zero-emission vehicle technologies in the coming years.

Subject to planning approval, the facility would include:

  • 12 HGV electric charging bays
  • 12 HGV charging and parking bays
  • 13 overnight HGV parking spaces
  • Four HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) refuelling bays
  • High-speed charging and parking facilities for up to 50 vans

The development would also feature enhanced driver welfare facilities, including food and refreshment facilities, rest areas, modern washroom amenities and a truck wash. In addition, plans include up to 4,000 sq m of space for manufacturing, warehousing and logistics uses, creating further opportunities for employment and business growth in the area.

The Dartford hub forms part of Aegis Energy’s wider strategy to establish a national network of clean energy refuelling and charging facilities for commercial vehicles. Littlebrook has been identified as one of the first five locations, alongside Sheffield, Warrington, Corby and Immingham, with the initial network targeted for delivery by the end of 2028.

The hubs are designed to help commercial fleet operators reduce emissions through access to electric charging and alternative fuels, while also providing secure parking and improved facilities for drivers.

Michael Shaw, Chief Executive Officer of Aegis Energy, said:

“Littlebrook is an important location for the future of cleaner freight and logistics. Every day, thousands of vans and HGVs travel through the M25 corridor and cross the Thames at Dartford, and the infrastructure to support cleaner vehicles needs to be located where those journeys happen.

Our proposals are about investing in practical infrastructure that can help fleets move away from fossil fuels while supporting jobs, local businesses and better facilities for drivers.”

The proposed investment is expected to strengthen Dartford’s position as a key logistics location while supporting national efforts to decarbonise road transport. By enabling greater adoption of electric and lower-carbon fuels, the development could also contribute to improvements in local air quality over the longer term.

Aegis Energy is currently undertaking engagement with local stakeholders, businesses and residents ahead of submitting a planning application to Dartford Borough Council.
