Infrastructure

Kent is one of the best connected county's not only in terms of transport, but digital infrastructure and business networks too.
Infrastructure

This is a place locked into the success of UK PLC, a key location for regional growth with unrivalled access to London and Europe by land, rail and sea.

With the roll out of the latest technological advances, including gigabit broadband and 5G, and the spirit of collaboration between clusters of businesses already here, this is a place focused on keeping people and places connected, wherever they are in the world.

The UK’s only High Speed Rail Network

The arrival of the High Speed 1 rail link has had a transformative impact on Kent since its launch in 2007, bringing most of the county within an hour of the capital. Business can be in the heart of London at St Pancras International in as little as 17 minutes – a faster commute than many living in the city itself.

The extension of London Underground’s Elizabeth Line (Crossrail) to Ebbsfleet Garden City and a new £63m railway station to support the development of new homes on the Hoo Peninsula in Medway will further improve transport links in growth areas of the county.

Regional network

Strategic UK motorway access

Kent has more motorways by distance than any other county in the UK with three strategic routes – the M2, M25 and M20 – linking London and the rest of the UK to Eurotunnel Le Shuttle at Folkestone and the Channel Ports.

It also gives businesses in Kent fast access to major airports at Gatwick, Heathrow, London City and Stansted.

Easy access to Europe

The Port of Dover is Europe’s busiest business ferry port handling £119 billion of trade or 17% of the UK’s trade in goods. Since 1994, 450 million tonnes of freight have been transported through the Channel Tunnel and together with Eurotunnel Le Shuttle services at Folkestone handle in excess of £122billion  of trade from across the English Channel each year.

Forward thinking digital connectivity

Kent also boasts high speed gigabit broadband and 5G across the county.

Kent is a place where working when you want and where you like is now standard,  including the beach if you happen to be on the coast.

From starts-ups and entrepreneurs seeking a better work-life balance, to larger organisations wanting fast and reliable connectivity, businesses can flourish thanks to the region’s digital infrastructure.
