Invest Kent is open for business. Kent County Council (KCC) and Medway Council have officially launched a new Grow in Kent service, establishing Invest Kent as the county’s dedicated inward investment brand — and signalling a new chapter for business growth across Kent and Medway.
The new service builds on the legacy of Locate in Kent, which supported the creation or retention of over 70,000 jobs across the county, bringing with it the same expertise, networks and commitment to making Kent one of the UK’s most attractive places to do business.
A fresh brand, a new vision
Invest Kent arrives with a brand new identity and a new website – a modern home for businesses looking to expand, relocate or establish themselves in Kent and Medway. The team combines seasoned professionals from the former Locate in Kent with additional expertise from KCC’s wider Economy team and Medway Council, creating a strengthened service backed by both councils. Together, Kent and Medway’s visitor economy and inward investment are worth more than £4.1 billion – and Invest Kent’s mission is to grow that further.
What Invest Kent does
Invest Kent manages a pipeline of business investment and expansion projects across the county, providing expert, confidential guidance to companies at every stage of their journey. Whether a business is searching for the right location, looking to find local talent, identify suppliers or access financial support, the team is on hand to help.
The aim is clear: to ensure Kent competes at a national level as a leading destination for businesses in strategically important sectors.
Part of the wider Grow in Kent service
Invest Kent sits alongside Visit Kent as part of the new Grow in Kent service – a joint initiative between KCC and Medway Council that replaces the former Locate in Kent and Visit Kent organisations following their closures in 2024. The service was shaped by extensive consultation with private sector businesses, district councils and industry stakeholders.
David Wimble, KCC Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Special Projects, said the launch was a vital step in protecting Kent’s economic future: “Inward investment and tourism are an integral part of Kent’s economic framework. It was of utmost importance that we secured the legacy of these former companies — and we look forward to cementing Kent’s reputation as a leading UK destination.”
Cllr Harinder Mahil, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic and Social Regeneration and Inward Investment, added: “This new strengthened partnership will help us act on opportunities to benefit both our residents and businesses, and raise the profile of the region on a national and international level.”
The sentiment was echoed by the business community. Dave Banks, Site Director for BAE Systems in Rochester, said: “It’s great to see Medway Council and Kent County Council join forces to attract even more world class talent to the region.”
