Awarded by the business group Logistics UK, more than 200 nominations were submitted for the award, with HGV drivers around the UK putting their say forward of what they felt were the most important things to them – from security, lighting, food availability and value for money.
Phil Roe, president of Logistics UK, said: “Professional drivers are the backbone of the UK economy, and truck stops provide an invaluable service as they keep goods moving around the country. Ashford International is a deserving winner, but facilities of this standard are still too often the exception rather than the rule.”
Ashford International Truckstop opened in 2021 and at the time was the largest in Europe, with a capacity of 650 HGV’s. Host to all of the facilities a truck driver would need after arriving in or soon departing the country, they can find a restaurant with hot meals, a gym, showers, rest pods for a sleep, or a secure overnight stay.
